WEMIHS Psychosocial Child Counseling Centre

To address the critical gap identified in psychosocial counseling services in Thika and its environs, WEMIHS has established a Child Counseling Center so far the only one in the province providing free counseling, care and support services to vulnerable and their guardians. The center adopts a holistic approach that facilitates children greater access to services through effective linkages and collaboration with a range of key service providers to include; legal services, health care, security for the abused children, home based follow-up support. 

Goal
To support  OVCs of ages 5-17  and their guardians with prompt and effective response that prevent child abuse, provide counseling and linkage to support services e.g. protection and legal services, psychosocial care and support in Thika.

Objective

  • To provide OVCs with psychosocial support (counseling) to eliminate post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • To empower the OVC caregivers with knowledge on how to protect children form child abuse and neglect.
  • To collaborate/network with child serving organizations to reduce children vulnerability through linkages with legal & other relevant support services.

Services Offered:

  • Child counseling (reaching the child through art therapy and play and other names).
  • Loss and grief counseling
  • Child Group counseling to enhance self-esteem & confidence).
  • Linking children to range of services e.g.; legal,  health, shelter, education etc)
